Estrogen-Cellulite

Connection

QUESTION:

I’m noticing some patches of cellulite on the back so my thighs. I eat right, exercise frequently and I’m slim. Why is this happening?

ANSWER:

The sad reality is that 90% of women are affected by cellulite over their lifetime and although being slim, watching your diet and exercising help to combat cellulite, these lifestyle practices do not completely prevent cellulite from developing.

Women are the primary victims of cellulite because they secrete higher levels of estrogen than men. Estrogen drives fat into the fat cell below the skin, which in turn sets off a chain of events that produces cellulite. For this reason, women on the birth control pill and women taking estrogen replacement therapy are prone to even more rapid cellulite development.

The good news is that various chemical agents, when applied topically, have been proven to reverse cellulite either by inhibiting alpha-receptors or stimulating beta-receptors on the surface of fat cells, which in turn, triggers the release of fat from cellulite areas. The problem is that all of the synthetic chemicals (e.g., methylxanthines, isoproterenol, adrenaline, yohimbine, piperoxan, phentolamine and dihydroergotamine) can produce undesirable side effects (high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, insomnia, anxiety, etc.)

This is why, as a medical doctor with additional training in homeopathy and herbal medicine, I prefer to use natural plant extracts to reverse cellulite. Certain plant extracts are know to reverse cellulite, which are purported to affect the alpha and beta-receptors in a similar manner as synthetic chemicals, but without the side effects making them safer and more natural - and, in my opinion, they work better.

The simple truth is that women must combat the cellulite-promoting effects of estrogen from puberty onward. As such, I recommend that women use a natural plant extract cellulite cream each day to prevent cellulite and to help reverse existing cellulite, in conjunction with proper diet and exercise.

How Cellulite Develops

Cellulite develops in a series of steps caused by damage to our lymphatic drainage system due to poor diet and digestion, lack of sufficient protein in the diet, lack of exercise, accumulation of toxins, repeated weight loss/gain, hormone imbalance, aging and/or a toxic liver. Free radicals, created by the stagnant flow of lymph, cause damage to surrounding capillaries, veins and connective tissue reducing the blood flow, oxygen and nutrition to cells in the surrounding area. Fat cells are then pulled in different directions and cluster together causing collagen and connective tissue to distort. As a result, fat and ?fiber accumulate where they should not, creating the unsightly ‘orangepeel’ effect.
According to the American Skincare and Cellulite Expert Association, approximately 90 percent of women over age 20, display cellulite to some degree (see ‘pinch test’). Now there is help. Alpha-Cell targets the digestion, lack of sufficient protein in the exit the fat cell and enter the bloodstream to be burned by lipidic metabolism.

PINCH TEST

The Nurnberger-Muller Scale classifies cellulite into four categories. Take this test by gently pinching a few inches of skin between your thumb and forefinger in the area of your buttocks, thighs, abdomen or upper arms.
